Adrián Yáñez, new women’s chair basketball coach

MADRID, 25 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Adrián Yáñez has been appointed this Monday as the new national women’s wheelchair basketball coach after the resignation of David Benítez “for personal reasons”, as confirmed by the Spanish Sports Federation for People with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF).

The Bilbao coach, coach of Bidaideak Bilbao, current champion of the Division of Honor, occupies the position of Benítez, who had taken over the women’s team earlier this month after the promotion of Abraham Carrión to the men’s instead of Óscar Trigo. Its debut in official competition will take place in the European Wheelchair Basketball Championship to be held in Madrid from December 4 to 12.

“It is a dream come true to be a coach and to be able to enjoy the European Championship. The aim is to play a good role and win a place in the World Cup. You are sad that it is a sensation because of the resignation of a teammate, but I am eager and very excited. The work that has been done has been historic and we are going to try to maintain that line. I want a good team to be seen on a defensive level, which can have offensive advantages and be dynamic, “said Yáñez in statements provided by the FEDDF.

Along with him, there will be as assistant coaches Franck Belén, Pablo Benítez and David Benítez, as a physiotherapist Marta Mesa and Marta Vargas, who will also be the team’s manager. The Basque coach was in the summer of 2021 as assistant coach of the former women’s coach Abraham Carrión, in some phases of the preparation for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
