Williams appreciates the complaint filed by the Prosecutor's Office for racist insults

Iñaki Williams has taken advantage of social networks to publicly show their satisfaction with the complaint filed by the Barcelona Provincial Prosecutor's Office for “racist insults and crimes against Fundamental Rights and Public Freedoms” against the fans who seriously insulted them in the RCD Espanyol-Athletic Club match. “It is a very very important step,” says the rojiblanco striker.

Williams' message begins with a “hello, I wanted to tell you that I am very happy with the Prosecutor's Office that has sued the individuals who offended me with racist insults. I believe that it is a very very important step. In the end I think we are in a society in which I think there must be changes and this is one of them “.

The Athletic footballer understands that “regardless of skin color, race or thought and ideology, I think we are all the same and that is why we have to respect each other. That is why we are very happy. I wanted to thank you all for the encouragement received, the messages of support and I send you a hug ”.

The events referred to by the rojiblanco club player took place on January 25, on the occasion of the visit to the fiefdom of the Biscayan team. The match ended with a one-goal draw. Iñaki Williams was insulted from the stands when, upon being substituted at 68 minutes, a group of fans dedicated the cry of the monkey to him, according to the brief of the complaint filed by the Barcelona Provincial Prosecutor's Office “for racist insults and for crimes against Fundamental Rights and Public Freedoms”.

It is the first time that this type of attitudes carried out by sports fans has reached criminal law, which was initiated by the Hate and Discrimination Crimes Service of the Barcelona Prosecutor's Office with the presentation of a complaint. The Public Ministry considers that said fans could have committed a crime of injury to the dignity of people for racist reasons. “Shouts and gestures of contempt towards him (by Iñaki Williams) with the undoubted effect of humiliation and impairment of his dignity for racist reasons”.
