Marc Márquez signs for Ducati until 2026

The one from Cervera, 8-time world champion, will leave Gresini’s satellite to be Bagnaia’s new teammate and rival

Marc Márquez: “I am really happy to be able to take this big step”

BARCELONA, 5 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish MotoGP rider Marc Márquez will race the next two editions of the motorcycle World Championship in the official Ducati team, the Ducati Lenovo Team, together with the current world champion Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia after confirming a high-profile media operation in the ‘paddock’, since the 93 will try to achieve its ninth world crown dressed, starting in 2025, in red.

“Marc Márquez will be Francesco Bagnaia’s new teammate in the Ducati Lenovo Team until 2026. The Spanish rider will replace Enea Bastianini in the official Ducati team in MotoGP starting next season,” Ducati Corse announced in a statement.

The Italian factory, based in Borgo Panigale (Bologna), revealed this Wednesday what was already an open secret, after Jorge Martín (current leader of the World Championship and in Prima Pramac Racing, a Ducati satellite) and Aprilia announced their signing for next year, leaving the way clear to Marc Márquez who in Mugello (Italy) closed the door to signing for Pramac and asked for the official motorcycle, which will finally be his.

“Ducati Corse is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Marc Márquez for the next two years. At the end of the current season, in which he rides the Desmosedici GP of the Gresini Racing MotoGP team, the eight-time world champion (31 years) will join the Ducati Lenovo Team alongside Francesco Bagnaia, where he will ride the red of the Borgo Panigale team until 2026,” the team added.

The first to welcome the ’93’ to the official Ducati team was its general director, Luigi Dall’Igna, who wanted to thank two riders who will leave Ducati for their work. “First of all I want to thank both Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martín for all the work they have done with us over the last few years and I wish them the best for the future. This season they are really showing that they have reached an incredible level and we are sure who will fight for the world title until the end,” he noted.

“Deciding on Bagnaia’s new partner in the Ducati Lenovo Team was not easy since we had a list of really strong riders to choose from. Finally our choice fell on an undisputed talent like Marc Márquez. In just a few races he managed to adapt perfectly to our Desmosedici GP and his innate ambition pushes him to continue growing. In the garage we will have two drivers who together have won 11 world titles and being able to count on their experience and maturity will also be of incalculable value for our growth,” he said.

For his part, Marc Márquez, in his first statements (provided by Ducati Corse) as a future official factory rider, said he was “very happy” to be able to wear the red color of the official Ducati team in MotoGP next season.

“Practically from the first contact with the Desmosedici GP I enjoyed riding it and immediately adapted well. From that moment I understood that my goal was to continue on this path, continue growing and join the team where ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia was world champion for two years in a row. “he assured.

“I am really happy to be able to take this big step from 2025 and grateful for the trust that Ducati has placed in me. Finally, I want to thank Nadia, Carlo, Michele and the entire Gresini Racing family for opening the door of their team to me in a delicate moment in my career. Now we will continue having fun and giving our best in the remainder of the season, which is my priority at this moment,” he revealed.

Marc Márquez has eight motorcycle world champion titles. The first, in 2010, he achieved in the then small 125cc category. Two years later, he was crowned in Moto2 (2012) and made the jump to MotoGP, the premier category in which he has accumulated six crowns: 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

He achieved all this with the official Honda team, a Repsol Honda Team that he decided to leave after the 2023 World Championship due to the recent poor results and the lack of reliability, power and winning capacity of the ‘golden wing’ motorcycle. He then got a satellite Ducati motorcycle, that of Gresini Racing, for this 2024 World Championship in which he once again enjoys and fights for podiums. Looking to 2025, he will ride the latest generation Desmosedici GP to qualify for everything. A new tall enemy comes home to Bagnaia.
