Ivo Grbic leaves Atlético and signs for Sheffield United

The Croatian goalkeeper Ivo Grbic left Atlético de Madrid this Friday to transfer to the English Sheffield United, an entity with which he reached an agreement until June 2027, as announced by both teams in separate statements.

“Atlético de Madrid and Sheffield United have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ivo Grbic to the English team,” the red and white team advanced about the Croatian goalkeeper, who signed for Atlético in the summer of 2020, and now, after two seasons and a half, heads towards the Premier League.

During this period in Madrid, Grbic played 13 games with the Colchonera shirt, since in the 2021/22 campaign he was on loan at French club Lille. However, he boasts in his record the league championship won by Atlético in the 2020/21 season.

His new club, Sheffiled United, bottom of the Premier, reported that the goalkeeper “arrived in the United Kingdom at the beginning of this week”, to “pass the medical tests” and sign “the contract until 2027”.

After this, Grbic acknowledged that his “first impressions of the club are very good”, in his first interview as a Sheffield United player. “Thank you all for the warm welcome I have received, I am very happy to be here. For every player it is very important to play in the Premier League,” he said.

“This is the best challenge for me. I am sure it will be an incredible experience and fun to play in front of our fans and I want to participate as soon as possible. I have played in good leagues in, I played in the Champions League with Lille and for the Atlético last season, which is a great club. I know that now I am ready for this challenge,” he concluded.
