MADRID, 23 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, assured this Tuesday that “the national leagues continue to be one of the cornerstones of football in Europe”, after having met in Nyon (Switzerland) with his counterpart from the European Leagues, Pedro Proença, to underline “the commitment to remain united” in the face of the possible creation of the Super League.

“European Leagues is an essential player in European football for its representation and defense of the interests of the national Leagues, which remain one of the cornerstones of football on our continent. We deeply value their valuable contributions to shaping the future of our sport and protect its essential values in these sensitive times,” said Ceferin.

Through a press release, the European Leagues stated that “the two presidents emphasized the excellent cooperation and understanding between the two organizations, underlining the commitment to remain united and maintain a united front for the good of the game.”

For its part, Proença described as “fundamental” that the “cooperation” between both organizations be strengthened and there be a “solid harmony between the main actors of the football pyramid in defense of the existing competition formats”, as well as “in the protection of the essence of football as we love it.

In this sense, the president of the European Leagues advocated achieving its objective “based on merit, the right to dream and solidarity”, and also “on maintaining a fair balance between European and national competitions”.
