MADRID, 10 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Álvaro Romero and Rocío Carvajal have been awarded this Friday, among others, as the best male and female athletes at the 2023 Snow Sports Gala, held at Madrid Snozone in Arroyomolinos (Madrid), where ATUDEM has also presented the 2023-24 season of the Spanish stations.
The ‘Discover Snow Spainsnow 2023’ awards were also presented, in their second edition, in which the effort and creativity of those projects that best encourage and promote snow sports among the little ones have been valued.
The Tourist Association of Ski and Mountain Resorts (ATUDEM) and the Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation (RFEDI-Spainsnow) have joined forces again to present the winter season in Madrid Snozone.
In an event with the presence of the presidents of ATUDEM and RFEDI, Jesús Ibáñez and May Peus España, what is expected from the 2023-24 season for the Spanish stations and high-level athletes has been broken down.
Thus, it was reported that in the 2022-23 season, more than 5.5 million skiers were registered and 74 million euros were invested in improving the facilities, 44 of them in lifts. All this, with the aim of a better experience for visitors and increasing the 28 euros of average daily consumption made by visitors.
ATUDEM, which recalled that Spanish stations provide direct employment to 3,338 people, both permanent and temporary, reviewed the international competitions that Spain will organize, such as the IFSS World Cup on mushing land in Ólvega, from November 22 to 26; the Alpine Paraskiing World Cup in La Molina, from January 12 to 17; the Freeride World Tour FWT in Baqueira, from January 27 to February 1; the Speed Skiing World Cup (KL) in Formiga, from February 26 to 29; and the Snowboard Cross World Cups (SBX) in Sierra Nevada, from March 1 to 3, 2024.
The president of the RFEDI highlighted “the importance of the integration of athletes with disabilities as well as the duty to promote women’s sports.”
“We are starting a great season with great investments by the stations. We are happy about the good understanding between the stations themselves and the RFEDI, something important to be able to organize the large international events planned for this season,” commented the president of ATUDEM.
The 2023 National Snow Sports Awards went to Álvaro Romero, Paquito Fernández Ochoa, and Rocío Carbajal, María José Rienda, for the best male and female athletes of the 2022-23 season.
The rest of the winners were Oliver Verdaguer (Carolina Ruiz Award); coach Álex Martín (Israel Planas); Paloma del Río (Blanca Fernández-Ochoa); FGC Turisme (ATUDEM); Marca newspaper (Communication); Iberdrola (Snow Industry); FADI Andalusia (SPAINSNOW); Irati Idiakez and Basque Winter Sports Federation (Madrid ‘Snow4All’).
