Athletic Club redeems itself against Almería in San Mamés

MADRID, 6 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Athletic Club thrashed Almería (3-0) this Friday at the start of the ninth day of LaLiga EA Sports, recovering all its strength in San Mamés after the tough defeat in the derby against Real Sociedad and the draw at home against Getafe.

Ernesto Valverde’s team had lost the flight with which they began the campaign and, above all, they left hurt with a 3-0 defeat in San Sebastián last Saturday. The strength of the Cathedral was obligatory for the ‘lions’, also indebted to their fans, and a bottom team Almería in crisis paid for the damage with a rout.

The Basques pushed hard from the start and after 10 minutes Gorka Guruzeta made it 1-0. Shortly after, Ander Herrera sent a header to the post and Sancet was around for the goal. One of the new additions to national coach Luis de la Fuente’s list, the forward put a very outmatched Almería in trouble.

The Andalusians raised their heads after the restart, but the game ended up going behind them. Dani García appeared alone to score the second on the hour mark and San Mamés made the final roar with the third, the work of a Sancet who found his prize in the 81st minute. Athletic claimed a penalty from Nico Williams and the hosts forgave a few more goals in the final stretch.

Valverde’s men thus lick their wounds and, after the draw against Getafe, they once again add three at home, where they are confident of cementing high positions this season. For its part, Almería goes into the national team break with many doubts, although with time to recover injured players and, in principle, choose a new coach after the dismissal of Vicente Moreno last week.
