Laura Gil: “We are growing, the important thing is to reach Eurobasket in the best conditions”

MADRID, 29 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The center of the Spanish team Laura Gil believes that they are “in a positive progression” in these first weeks of concentration for the Eurobasket in June and that they are “growing as a team”, but made it clear that “the important thing is to arrive in the better conditions” on the day of the debut in the continental event.

“I think we are very happy, with a positive progression. We are growing as a team, improving ‘things’ from the first game to the second and now we have a week of work before Friday, which is that next test,” Gil said in statements provided by the FEB.

The Murcian asks to continue creating the “identity” of the team. “In defense we are quite serious, although there are still ‘things’ so that all the pieces fit into the same gear, and in attack we must finish establishing the concepts that Miguel (Méndez, coach) wants us to have,” she commented.

“We are growing. The games against Italy and China have been the first two tests and this is very long, the important thing is to arrive in the best conditions on the 15th,” added the new Perfumerías Avenida player about her Eurobasket debut.

The center is “very happy” about her return to the national team and to see that it is “reflecting” that they are all “enjoying on and off the track.” “In the end, they are all stages, a change was necessary and I think that it is being seen that the team is being formed and that we are all
understanding well where we are and what we want to achieve. June 15 is when all the pieces have to be well placed. At the moment we are happy and continue with our work,” she stressed.

For her part, Lola Pendande assured that she felt “very good” in these first games. “Miguel trusts the team a lot and I think I’ve done exactly what he asked of me and I’m super happy. We also won the two preparation games and I think we’re going well, on the right track,” she said.

The new Barça player pointed out that the coach asks her for “defense, rebounding, physical power”. “Everything I can do that I already have, as he tells me, maximize physicality. The points and the rest will come,” admitted Pendande, “super proud to be the only Andalusian right now” in the national team and to be “a benchmark ” for basketball in this community.
