Real Sociedad announced this Wednesday the contractual renewal until 2029 of central defender Igor Zubeldia, a youth squad player for the San Sebastian team who has been in the first team since 2016 and is currently one of the references of the squad.
“Real Sociedad and Igor Zubeldia have reached an agreement to renew the contract that bound both parties until the end of the 2028-29 season,” the club announced in an official statement on its website.
The 26-year-old from Gipuzkoa has accumulated 174 appearances with the first team, and right now he is established as the leader of the ‘txuri-urdin’ defence, where he has only been playing since 2021, after Imanol Alguacil delayed his then usual position of midfielder for the injuries to their teammates.
The youth squad player was “very happy” for the club’s confidence and “grateful” to everyone who has helped him “grow as a player”, but he is already thinking about the next goals with the club of his life. “Winning a title was a dream, but if I had to ask for another wish it would be, with the year we are doing, to be able to qualify for the Champions League,” he declared.
