Recoletas Burgos Universidad de Burgos and VRAC Quesos Entrepinares will play in the final of the 90th edition of the Copa del Rey after beating UE Santboiana (46-28) and Real Ciencias Enerside (8-17) in the semifinals, respectively.
The two teams will meet next Sunday, May 7 (12:00 pm) at the La Cartuja Sports Facilities in Seville, where both people from Burgos and Valladolid will try to win their first title of the season. Thus, they will reissue the last match of the regular phase of the Division of Honor that fell, in the last play, on the Burgos side.
In the first semifinal, Recoletas Burgos Universidad de Burgos defeated the reigning champion of the Division of Honor in a match in which it took them just three minutes to score, penalizing the first mistake in the attack by the dean of Spanish rugby with Nicolás Walker’s perched . In the other ‘semi’, VRAC Quesos Entrepinares and Real Ciencias Enerside, first and second classified at the time of the league cut for the Cup, faced an anticipated final that went 0-0 at halftime. In the 44th minute, Ciencias struck first with a test by Vincent O’Brien, and the score did not move again until midway through the second half, when Greg Dyer and Cormac Fox exchanged penalty blows to reach the final stretch with a tight 8-3.
In the decisive moments of the match, VRAC stood firm and punished two mistakes by their rival with trials by Mauro Perotti and Alejandro Alonso, certifying their place in the 2023 Copa del Rey final.
