The president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Franco, celebrated this Wednesday that the new Sports Law took “a giant step” after its approval on Tuesday in the Culture and Sports Commission, and thanked all the parties for their contributions and “willingness to join”.
“The Sports Law took a giant step after being approved by the Culture and Sports Commission of Congress. I would like to especially thank all the parliamentary groups for their high-mindedness, their contributions and their work in favor of a regulation that will modernize the decisively in sports,” Franco said in a video.
The leader recalled that this new legislation “radically deepens the recognition of social rights, the vault key of socialist governments, recognizes physical activity as essential and a right of citizenship, guarantees women’s equality in all classes sports, is a pioneer in terms of inclusion and redoubles the fight against racism and LGTBIphobia”.
In addition, Franco stressed that the Sports Law “tries to maintain a balance between the federations, in charge of organizing federated sports, and the leagues, which organize professional competitions in coordination with their federations”, and that it does so “always respecting the rights of the clubs and of the athletes who participate, which are ultimately the central axis of the sports system”.
Finally, José Manuel Franco thanked “everyone” who is part of this ecosystem for their “willingness to join, contribute and reach agreements”. “Together we are going to place Spanish sport in the prominent place it deserves,” he said.
For his part, the Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta, welcomed “sharing great news” such as this approval of the opinion of a Sports Law that “will serve to take Spanish sport to even higher levels”.
In this sense, the Catalan politician stressed that there was “a stumbling block” to move forward, which was to “agree with the people of football, who have their disputes.” “Well, everyone agrees and everyone together to make an even better sport,” he said in a video on his social networks.
