Athletic does not support Real Madrid and Barça in the Superliga but “defending their interests” against LaLiga

MADRID, 25 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of Athletic Club, Jon Uriarte, made it clear this Tuesday that they are not “supporting Real Madrid and FC Barcelona” in anything related to the Superliga but rather “defending their interests and those of their partners” in relation to the agreement signed by LaLiga and the CVC international fund.

“Athletic Club is not supporting Real Madrid or FC Barcelona, it is defending its interests and those of its partners. The debate is not about Superliga yes or Superliga no, it is about the agreement reached with CVC and about centralized management of commercial assets,” said Uriarte in statements provided by the club.

The leader stressed that “the position” of the Biscayan team on the Super League, “with the limited information available to it and in the format in which it was presented, is contrary to its development”, but that its support for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona is against ‘La Liga Impulso’ and “about the management of LaLiga’s economic activities.

Uriarte believes that “during these years, LaLiga’s growth has been dizzying” and that “both revenue from audiovisual rights and commercial assets have only grown.” “We have always been in favor of this growth, we have supported it and we have been a key player,” he pointed out.

“We are in favor of certain commercial assets being sold jointly. Of course we think that the name of LaLiga, the ball or the cards for each season should be marketed in this way. And this has been carried out with the current legislation and it can continue to be carried out without any problem”, added the president of Athletic Club.

In this sense, on the amendment of the new Sports Law and that it would harm the agreement with CVC, he pointed out that he intends to “validate a posteriori the agreement reached between LaLiga and the CVC Investment Fund that is currently being challenged in court by Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Athletic Club”.
