Elizabeth II receives Liz Truss, the new prime minister: the queen, stoic with her cane and wearing heels

Smiling, standing and leaning on her cane. The Queen Isabel II96 years old, firm and impeccable, with her pearl necklace and wearing shoes block heels (wide heel), has officially received the new prime minister, Liz Truss, whom she has commissioned to form the next government. The meeting took place at Balmoral Castle (in the Scottish Highlands), instead of Buckingham Palace, in London, thus breaking with the tradition of this symbolic audience.

The sovereign, who suffers from mobility problems typical of her age, has thus fulfilled her duty as head of state by receiving Truss in audience, the third woman of the fifteen prime ministers who have dispatched with the monarch throughout his 70 years of reign. The president has complimented the Queen, who has shaken her right hand, while she grabbed her wooden cane with her left. The new tenant of Downing Street has taken a plane to move to Balmoral, more than 800 kilometers from the capital. She was accompanied by her husband, Hugh O’Leary. Only 40 minutes before this meeting she arrived at Balmoral Boris Johnson, along with his wife, Carrie, to show the sovereign his formal resignation.

After the hearing, Truss took a plane back to London, where his first public appearance is scheduled for this afternoon.
