January 27 could be one more day on the calendar of any Madridista, but the oldest ones know that it is a milestone in that historic rivalry with Barça for decades. On January 27, 1963 (today it is 58 years old), Miguel Muñoz's team literally swept the Catalans at the Camp Nou, endorsing them with a little hand that is still remembered in Barcelona. A 1-5 that made it clear that the elimination of the European Cup suffered by the whites on the same stage two seasons earlier was due to the famous and calamitous refereeing by Mister Leafe, canceling four legal goals for Madrid and preventing him from conquering that year (1961) his sixth consecutive European Cup.

A little hand (1-5) who covered all the covers of sports and general information newspapers the next day. It was the vindication of a Madrid that attended the last exhibitions of Di Stéfano (he would leave the club a year later), but that still enjoyed the splendor of Puskas and Gento. It goes without saying that this League ended up being won by Madrid, with 49 points, outstripping Atlético de Madrid by no less than 12. Barça was sixth…. 18 points behind whites! And that those leagues the triumphs only gave two points …
