Zoqbi and Arcos return to the ‘Guerreras’ for the last date before the World Cup

Ambros Martín is committed to the continuity of the bloc to face a World Cup that gives a ticket to Paris 2024

MADRID, 7 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The national women’s handball coach, Ambros Martín, announced this Tuesday the block of 19 ‘Guerreras’ that will participate in the 2023 Spain International Tournament, which will be held from November 24 to 26 at the Sports Palace in Santander (Cantabria), with Japan, Serbia and Argentina as rivals and in the last test before the World Cup.

With the 2023 World Championship, which will be held from November 29 in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, just around the corner, this International Tournament in Spain 2023 will serve Martín to put together the final block of the ‘Warriors’ who will attend to the World Cup event, the last way for Spain to be in the Pre-Olympic and qualify for Paris 2024.

Argentina, Serbia and Japan will be the three major rivals for the Spanish in the 2023 Spain International Tournament, in a demanding test before the calmer, in theory, World Cup debut against Kazakhstan, on November 29.

The national coach, Ambros Martín, is committed to the continuity of the block but in the call they highlight the return of experienced players such as Darly Zoqbi, the return of Paula Arcos or the entry of Danila So Delgado, Paulina Pérez, Seynabou Mbengue and María Prieto O ‘Mullony.

The Guerreras will begin training next Monday, November 20, in Hoznayo (Cantabria), where they will stay for a week before leaving for Denmark, specifically Frederikshavn, the city where they will play the Preliminary and Main Round of the World Cup.

“We have given continuity to the work block with which we have been working since June and the truth is that it has not been easy to leave out other players. We have based ourselves on the states of form and the moment they are going through in their respective teams. It will still be more complicated to make a final preliminary cut at the end of the TIE,” Martín pointed out.

As for Darly Zoqbi, who returns to a major tournament with the national team, he assured that goalkeeping is a “key and very demanding factor.” “The case of Darly Zoqbi is an example that his performance in his club and in a demanding league like the Romanian one has earned him the call,” he noted.

“I have not looked at ID or age to make the call; the most important thing is to arrive as well prepared as possible for a World Championship in which we are not only at risk for the medal, but also for presence in the Pre-Olympic,” argued the coach.

Regarding the Cantabrian event, he assured that he will focus on preparing and arriving in the best possible conditions for the World Cup. “In the matches we will try to set specific objectives, without taking into account either the rival or the score. It will be important to distribute minutes among all the players called up, to avoid wear and tear and take concepts that we consider very important,” he said.
