Zidane: “It’s logical to think about being the French coach, but it’s not the time”

MADRID, 13 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The French coach Zinedine Zidane described it as “logical” to think about being the coach of his country, but considered that “this is not the time”, although he confessed that he feels “renewed” after being away from the bench for two years since his departure in May of 2021 from the Real Madrid bench.

“I have said many times that when you have been in the French team as a player, then you become a coach, it is logical to think about it. But it is not the time,” he argued in an interview with GQ magazine collected by Europa Press.

Since leaving Real Madrid, Zidane has spent more time with his family and friends. “When I came home, my head was always back at work. In this job, everything comes from everywhere. All the information falls on you and you have the responsibility to make all the decisions. It really absorbs your energy,” he said.

Zidane indicated that he loves what he does and declared himself “capable of working hard”. “But every once in a while, and I’ve done it twice already, I need to take a break. Now I just enjoy life. All of this is only possible if you take a step back. My life always goes fast, but now I feel refreshed,” he said.

While when he was a player he was only “focused” on his performance, as a coach he ends the seasons “even more tired”, so both have nothing to do with it. “The coach, on the other hand, is in charge of 23 guys and he never stops,” he stated.

Regarding his role as a father, the Frenchman uses football as a connecting thread with his four children -Enzo, Luca, Theo and Elyaz-, since in this matter, they “listen” to him, although it is different from when he was a player. “When I was still active, Enzo and Luca wanted to play all the time. I trained a lot and at home I preferred to rest, but they wouldn’t let me,” he recalled.
