Zaragoza and a ‘pink tide’ of 11,000 women enjoy the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race

More than 11,000 women have participated this Sunday in a new edition of the Asturian Dairy Central Women’s Race in Zaragoza, which has dyed the streets of the capital morning pink and in which the Aragonese Sara Benedí has ​​prevailed.

The participants gathered to complete the slightly more than six kilometers of route, with the finish line in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, next to the Plaza del Pilar, and to later enjoy the fitness and aerobics festival with which a very active day has been closed. festive event topped off by a performance by Team D’Luxe, a local group that has created the official song of the ‘pink tide’ national circuit.

At the exit, a nice double tribute was paid to Gloria Vaquerizas, patient and member of the Spanish Association of Metastatic Breast Cancer, who today participated together with her 11-year-old daughter Ángela and two of her six sisters, and also to the athlete to Mireya Arnedillo, who has sponsored the test. This young Aragonese athlete achieved a historic feat after breaking the record of Spain U-20 of 1500m (4:11.06) that the also Aragonese Carmen Valero had since 1974, the longest record in Spanish athletics.

The local runner Sara Benedí managed to repeat her 2019 triumph with a time of 22:07, beating Greta Guerrero, second classified, by just four seconds at the finish line. Paloma Aznar completed the podium by stopping the clock at 22:43, while the athletes María José Pueyo and Isabel Macías finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race returns to pre-pandemic “normality”, adding more than a million participants in all its tests and almost one and a half million euros donated to different charitable and social causes ranging from the fight against cancer , against sexist violence in all its forms, support for research projects, trafficking in women or the incorporation of women into sport.

In addition, as in the other venues, a donation of 75,000 euros will be made at the end of the circuit to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), increasing the figure for 2021, and financial support will continue to be given to three foundations focused on protecting women in different fields: Wanawake Mujer, Fundación GEICAM and Clara Campoamor.

All the women have worn the 016 on their bibs in the physical races, which is the helpline for victims of sexist violence and leaves no trace on the telephone bill.
