“You will always be my four angels”

After her return to the stage with Karol G at the Santiago Bernabéu, Amaia Montero left an emotional message on her social networks:”Life has a lot of ways of getting its message across to you, you just have to pay close attention to it and then it’s like riding a bike. Suddenly you realise that it’s as easy as looking ahead without looking at the ground and then you understand that life is the journey and not the destination. Yesterday I decided to enjoy that journey and I did it with the best companion, surrounded by the people I love the most and the love of all of you who were there.”

On the comments wall, the Basque singer received support from her former colleagues at La Oreja de Van Gogh: “Congratulations, friend, we are deeply proud of you.” Four days later, the singer responded to Pablo Benegas, Xabier San Martín, Haritz Garde and Álvaro Fuentes: “You will always be my four angels.”

After leaving the band in 2007, the Irún singer began a solo career and was replaced by Leire Martínez in the group. So many years later and despite the rumours of a bad relationship that kept her away from her friends for years, Montero has found in them a shoulder to lean on during the most complicated months of her life. In September of last year, in the midst of recovering from her mental health problems, she shared a photo on social media with the band’s keyboardist, Xabi San Martín. It was in the autumn of 2022 when she aroused great concern when she wrote on social media: “If hope is the last thing to die and I haven’t lost it yet, what good is life to me?”

During this time away from the media spotlight, she was admitted to the Navarra Clinic and even spent time in the ICU. Her sister, Idoia Montero, has been her great pillar along with her closest family and friends, such as her ex Gonzalo Miró, who was aware of her return to the stage: “The important thing is that she has not been alone,” said Pilar Miró’s son in Public mirror. After her comeback, the singer clarified that she would return to solo music and denied the rumours of recent weeks that pointed to her return with La Oreja de Van Gogh on stage: “Not at the moment,” she said.
