Xammar and Brugman will battle for the podium in the 470 Class European Championship Medal Race

MADRID, 19 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The crew made up of the Spanish Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman climbed this Friday to fourth position in the 470 class European Championship, which is taking place in San Remo (Italy), and will fight for the podium in the final Medal Race, where their compatriots Silvia Mas and Nicolás Rodríguez will also participate.

The windy conditions on the regatta course allowed the Final Series program to close with three new races, for a total of 11 regattas held. The provisional classification left a tight ‘top 10’, in which the two Spanish ships fought to climb positions until reaching the Gold group.

The greatest comeback had as protagonists the Catalan Silvia Mas and the Galician Nicolás Rodríguez, who signed an 8-2-6 to climb from eighteenth to ninth place. With this they achieved a place in the Medal Race, the final regatta in which they will redouble their efforts to close this championship with a new promotion in the table.

Xammar and Brugman will cross the starting line hungry for a medal this Saturday. The Catalan duo added a 2-8-3 run to their record this Friday, rising from fifth to fourth place. With a difference of three points between the provisional third and fifth, and 12 up to the leader, the options are open for the last day.

In the Silver group, the other two Spanish boats closed the championship positively. On the one hand, Neus Ballester from the Balearic Islands and Jaime Wizner from Galicia rose to 40th place, seventh in their group and first under-21 crew. Pablo Ruiz and María del Mar Gil from the Balearic Islands occupied 54th place, out of a total of 65 teams.
