Wout van Aert: “I feel comfortable in yellow”

MADRID, 2 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Belgian cyclist Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) was “very happy” and “comfortable” dressed in yellow in the Tour de France after the second stage this Saturday, an important consolation after losing the partial victory dispute.

“I am very happy to wear the yellow jersey. It is one of the most iconic garments in cycling. I have pursued it for a long time, and today I have finally achieved it. I feel comfortable in yellow,” he said after the finish in Denmark’s Nyborg .

The Belgian runner confessed that it took him a while to find out that he was leading the general classification after giving up in the sprint with the Dutchman Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl). “When I crossed the finish line, I was disappointed that I lost the sprint,” he said.

“It took me a while to realize that my second place meant I was leading the Tour. I’m going to try to keep this yellow jersey for as long as possible,” he added.

“We have to see how we are going to compete in the next stages. Today it has become clear to me that my team, Jumbo-Visma, is very strong. We have avoided crashes thanks to the great work of all our teammates. Today there was much more respect among the riders , I imagine that due to the circumstances”, finished.
