Willy Hernangómez: “We have to keep that feeling of having been ourselves”

MADRID, 3 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The player of the Spanish basketball team Willy Hernangómez assured this Sunday that the team “has to be left with that feeling of having been” themselves “against Canada and throughout Mundobasket 2023, a tournament in which they have given “everything in the track”, at the same time that he wished that they had “learned from their mistakes” to face the “next challenge”.

“You have to look at all the positive things about this championship, a new, young group, the experience we’ve all had in this championship, the way we’ve been, especially this game playing, having fun, which is one of the more important things, giving everything on the court”, analyzed Willy Hernangómez at the press conference after the defeat against Canada that knocked Spain out of the World Cup.

This second defeat in the tournament, in the second game of the second phase, leaves the team touched, but the pivot stated that they have to keep that feeling of having been “themselves”, of what they have done “on the track , in attack, in defence”. “Without a doubt, I think it will be food and firewood for the game of the future of the national team. I hope we learn from our mistakes, looking forward to the next challenge,” he added.

“I never talk about the referees. I think they are people and they try to do their job to the best of their ability, like us, who also have mistakes. Each one tries to do their best. I think it’s more to Canada’s merit to try to play much more aggressive, to go out on the track stronger, more than things from referees and others”, he concluded.
