we analyze the members of the Grand Duchy

Henry of Luxembourg announced this Sunday that, next October, he will hand over his duties to his son the Hereditary Grand Duke Guillermo. Although the news has taken us by surprise, the truth is that the Grand Duke of Luxembourg already stated in an interview last April that opportunities must be given to young people. With the official news on the table, we can say that, in a few months, his first-born will begin a new stage in the institution and will become the lieutenant representative of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. But, even if in a few months William will delegate his powers: Who is who in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg?

Henry of Luxembourg married Maria Teresa Mestre Batista in 1981 after ten intense months of courtship. Despite initial opposition from Enrique’s parents, the couple married at Notre-Dame on Valentine’s Day. Just nine months after saying ‘I do’, their firstborn Guillermo was born.

Prince William is the natural heir to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The prince spent his childhood in schools in Luxembourg and Switzerland. Also, he completed military training at the Royal Military Academy of Sanshurst (United Kingdom) and studied History and Political Science in England.

In 2012, the Hereditary Grand Duke announced his engagement to Countess Stephanie de Lannoy. They were married civilly on October 19, 2012 in the Plenary Room of the Luxembourg City Council in the strictest privacy. A day later, they celebrated a religious wedding and 1,400 guests attended, including Felipe VI and Mrs. Letizia representing the Spanish royal house. On December 6, 2019, the Luxembourg court announced that the heir grand duchess was pregnant and on May 10, 2020, Estefanía gave birth to her first-born child, Charles of Luxembourg.

Prince Felix

Prince Felix, the third in line to the throne, worked as public relations for a Swiss company specializing in sporting events. Later, he joined the Royal Military Academy in the United Kingdom, but due to a knee injury he abandoned his military training. Among his hobbies, sports and carpentry stand out. In 2021, the Ducal Family announced Félix’s wedding to Claire Lademacher, daughter of millionaire Hartmut Lademacher and Gabriele Schneider.

Prince Louis

Prince Louis is the third son of the Grand Dukes. He studied several years in Luxembourg and then spent several years at a Swiss boarding school. In 2004 he met Tessy Antony and in 2006 they married and Gabriel, his first child, was born. Shortly after the wedding and as a consequence of having had his child out of wedlock, the prince renounced his inheritance rights and those of his cousin Gabriel. At the beginning of 2017, the couple made their separation public.

Princess Alexandra

Alexandra has the titles of Princess of Luxembourg, Princess of Nassau and Princess of Bourbon-Parma. The princess is sixth in the line of succession.
