Villarreal CF Femenino has reached an agreement this Thursday with the Spanish midfielder Virginia Torrecilla, who will wear the ‘Yellow Submarine’ jersey for the next season, after having spent her last four seasons with Atlético de Madrid.
“The Majorcan soccer player arrives as a free agent,” the ‘groguet’ club specified in a press release from its website. Born on September 4, 1994, Villarreal have described her as “a footballer with a great career behind her and a lot of experience.”
“She stands out for her quality and good understanding of the game. Virginia began her career in soccer in her native Mallorca, going through various teams such as Badia Cala Millor, Club Deportivo Servense or Unión Deportiva Collerense, making her debut on September 3 of 2009 in the First Division with only 14 years”, has added the note.
“In 2011 she received a call from the Spanish team to go play in the European Under-19 Championship, proclaiming herself runner-up. In 2012 she signed for FC Barcelona, a club with which she managed to win three leagues and two Queen’s Cups, coming to play also in the Champions League”, recalled the press text.
“During this period, Torrecilla made his debut with the absolute Spanish team, participating in the 2013 and 2017 Euro Cups, and in the 2015 and 2019 World Cups,” the note continued. Between 2015 and 2019, the Balearic Islander signed for Montpellier HSC (France).
In 2019, Virginia returned to Spain to play for Atlético de Madrid, extending her record by winning a Copa de la Reina and also a Spanish Super Cup. “However, this last period was not a path of roses”, she has stressed about the brain tumor for which Torrecilla had to undergo surgery in May 2020.
The Spaniard then moved away from the playing fields.
