Villarreal saves the Cup in Zamora and the debut of Marcelino

The ‘submarine’ advanced in extra time after tying in the 88th minute

MADRID, 22 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Villarreal surpassed the second round of the Copa del Rey with a hard-fought victory in extra time (1-2) over Zamora, a Second RFEF team that put the ‘submarine’ on the ropes in Marcelino García Toral’s debut on the bench yellow.

The LaLiga team EA Sports called time on their visit to the Ruta de la Plata Stadium, where the weak rival was close to giving the bell in a very Cup match. Zamora became strong at home, as it had been in its League , and knew how to suffer against a Villarreal that did not find the way to the goal until almost the final whistle to advance to the round of 32, with a double from José Luis Morales.

A great header from Asier Etxaburu made it 1-0 at the start of the second half. The first act was away, but in their possession of the ball and dominance, Marcelino’s team did not find a way to hurt Zamora, with many changes and new scoreboard, despite the fact that the locals finished very close to their area.

The Second Federation team defended well, took the lead on the scoreboard and, on top of that, began to be dangerous with counterattacks. The entry of Gerard Moreno and Capoue took a while to work but ended up being decisive for the yellows, as did Morales, author of the two goals for the ‘submarine’.

The former Levante player made his debut this season by making the 1-1 with some luck, rejected by a rival, after several worthy interventions by the local goalkeeper Fermín. Zamora suffered the blow and at the beginning of extra time Villarreal accumulated arrivals that were already in serious danger until Morales made it 1-2.

All in all, the last 15 minutes belonged to the Zamorano team, with Etxaburu hovering around the goal and more than one dangerous situation that made the visitors sweat. Villarreal was saved from a bad start by Marcelino’s attempt, on his return to the ‘submarine’, to reverse a campaign that is still alive in the three competitions but with a lot of work pending.
