VidaCaixa, Mapfre and Mutua lead the ranking of insurers with the highest premium volume in Spain

VidaCaixa, Mapfre and Grupo Mutua Madrileña lead the overall classification of insurers with the highest volume of premiums collected during the past year in Spain, according to provisional data from Cooperative Investigation of Insurance Entities (ICEA).

In the first place, VidaCaixa registered a volume of 8,582 million euros, after experiencing a growth of 4.4% over the previous year and representing a market share of 13.4%.

Mapfre, in second place and with a share of 11.4%, registered a growth of 0.6%, to 7.335 million euros in premiums, followed by Mutua Madrileña, which copied 8.5% of the market, after grow 3.5%, to 5,545 million euros.

The following positions in the ICEA total ranking are held by Allianz, with 3,430 million euros and a 5.35% share; Grupo Catalana Occidente, with premiums of 3,051 million and 4.76% of the market; Zurich, which obtained 2,954 million and a share of 4.6%, and Axa, whose premiums amounted to 2,952 million and its share to 4.6%.

They complete the 'top 10' of Santalucía insurance groups, with 2,456 million euros and a 3.8% share; Generali, which achieved 2,440 million euros and 3.8% of the market, and Santander Seguros, with 1,693 million and a 2.64% share.

By segments, VidaCaixa also placed itself as a leader in life insurance with a share of 31.11% and a premium increase of 4.43%, to 8,562 million euros. Behind were Mapfre, with 7.92% of the market and 2,180 million euros (-4.61%), and Zurich, whose premium income fell by 25.59%, to 1,898 million euros (share of the 6.9%).

Mutua tops the non-life ranking

In the non-life branch, Mutua Madrileña repeated for the second consecutive year as leader of the classification, growing by 4.41% the amount of premiums for direct insurance, up to 5,268 million euros, and achieving a share of 14.38 %.

Mapfre, meanwhile, achieved a share of 14.08% and premiums of 5,156 million euros (+ 2.99%), and Allianz placed third with a share of 6.68% in this market and a volume of premiums of 2,448 million euros, 2.34% less than in 2018.

The Mutua Madrileña group also leads health insurance, with 2,688 million, after registering a growth of 6.5%, while occupying the second position in the car category, in which it accumulated a volume of premiums of 1,563 million euros , 5.25% more.
