“Van de Beek signed the papers with Madrid last summer”

Donny van de Beek was one of the protagonists of the Real Madrid transfer market last season and he aimed to also be one of this until the arrival of the coronavirus. He finally signed for Manchester United, but Without the economic crisis that the pandemic has meant for all teams right now, Van de Beek would be a Real Madrid footballer.

This has been explained by Guido Albers, the player's representative, in a local press podcast. “Last year we already worked for him to sign that same summer, but Ajax was against that after the confirmed marches of De Jong and De Ligt”, he comments. “He finally stayed, but we had everything arranged. All the papers were signed last year.”

The agreement with the player came in the summer and, between December and January, the transfer between the clubs was closed. Albers affirms that Madrid were in Amsterdam in these winter months to speak with Overmars and Van der Sar. “There we shook hands and said: it is 100%. We would keep it silent for a while, then the medical examination would pass and in the summer it would arrive in Madrid.” One of the clauses he signed was to pass that medical examination in the harshest months of the pandemic.
