Valencia had already scored four goals against Madrid at the Mestalla on six occasions

The Valencia, before Sunday's 4-1 victory, he had already scored four goals against Real Madrid in Mestalla on six occasions, five of which gave him victory and one led to a draw at four goals.

That meeting, with Luis Aragonés on the local bench and Jorge Valdano on the visitor, came to half-time with a 3-0 advantage over Valencia with goals from Gálvez, Fernando and Mijatovic, although Real Madrid in the second half had shortened differences with so many of Laudrup and Alkorta.

With seven minutes remaining, Arroyo made it 4-2 and Míchel put the final 4-3 one minute from the end.

Valencia have not scored five goals against Real Madrid at the Mestalla, but in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals of the 98-99 campaign, in which they were proclaimed champions, they won 6-0.
