In recent weeks several reports have pointed to the fact that the Valencia has launched an operation to convince Joselu Mato so that this summer he ends up at the Mestalla club when his contract with Alavés ends and he is the substitute for Maxi Gómez, but this Saturday the Valencian coach José Bordalás was ambiguous about it before visiting the Vitoria team.
“Joselu is a fantastic player and he has been showing it throughout his career and in recent seasons at Alavés. He is an important player, decisive, a magnificent player but we are not thinking of him being a future player for Valencia. We are focused on the current competition and I am sure that he will try to help his team to get the victory”, he pointed out.
It was not clear if they are not thinking about that operation now because they are in the middle of the competition or if they do not see it as the ‘nine’ starter for Valencia. Bordalás, with a contract in force for the next campaign, ended the winter market away from the club’s board due to the reinforcement policy and a few weeks ago he preferred not to talk about the next campaign.
Rejoin the fight for the Europa League
Beyond Joselu, Bordalás pointed out that, after having only added two points from the last fifteen that have been at stake, that only by rediscovering the victory do they have options to rejoin the fight for the Europa League. Of course, he admitted that Alavés is playing a good part of his salvation options.
“It’s in the lower zone, six from safety if I’m not mistaken and for them it’s a real final. We come from a not very good streak in the league and we are eager to get back on the road to victory, ”he said.
“If we get a good result we’ll get closer to the top but not thinking in the medium or long term. What we know is that if we want to be with the best we have to add three by three”, he sentenced. Bordalás avoided talking about a “turning point” in that fight in case of victory as he did before the draw against Real.
