MADRID, 28 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Valencia Basket has confirmed this Wednesday that it will withdraw the number ’17’ from its eternal captain Rafa Martínez, who left the courts last year at the age of 40, and the club will rename court 3 of L’Alqueria del Basket in honor of the shooting guard from Santpedor, in a double event that will take place next Sunday.
The act will take place after the home debut of Valencia Basket in the Endesa League, which will face the locals against Joventut Badalona at 6:30 p.m. Before the start of this match, at 5:30 p.m., Rafa will reveal his name on the new court 3 of L’Alqueria del Basket in an act open to fans who want to come and share that moment with him.
Immediately after the conclusion of the match against the Verdinegro team, Rafa Martínez’s ’17’ will go up to the sky of La Fonteta to become the third number retired in the history of the entity along with Víctor Luengo’s ’15’ and ’11 ‘ by Nacho Rodilla.
Rafa Martínez is the most successful player in the Club’s history, as he is the only one to have won five titles with Valencia Basket: the 2010 and 2014 Eurocups, the 2017 Endesa League, the 2017 Endesa Super Cup and the 2019 EuroCup – the latter four trophies raised by himself as captain.
In addition, the Catalan played as a ‘taronja’ eleven seasons, he is the second player with the most campaigns, only behind Luengo’s 15 and tied with Bojan Dubljevic, and remains the second player with the most games in the entity’s history with 626.
