Uribes praises the Paralympians: “You inspire with your successes and embody modern values”

MADRID, 23 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Higher Council of Sports (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, said this Friday that Paralympic athletes inspire with their “successes” and also that they embody “modern values that make societies move forward”, just days before the start of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

“We are one of the largest delegations in terms of the number of participants and this is the result of work and effort, and it is winning to be able to be here. Spain is one of the great powers in Olympic and Paralympic sport. You are a source of pride for the country because of your example, because you are a reference for being better. You inspire us with your successes and embody the modern values that make the most advanced societies advance,” he commented from the headquarters of the CSD itself.

He also highlighted the fact that the CSD prizes have been equal to the medals won in Paris 2024. “It is a fair demand that has had a fair response,” he said. “The media is increasingly giving more space to Paralympic sport and it is another achievement that is due to your good work,” Rodríguez Uribes continued with his speech.

“I would like to thank the athletes and sponsors, and congratulate them for their great work in the Tokyo-Paris cycle. Representing Spain is an honour and a fair reward for those of you who have secured a place. The first ones who want the medal are the athletes, but you have to value what you have already done,” he warned.

He also reiterated that “the multiplier effect of marketing and media campaigns” that include Paralympians “helps to position them as a social reference.” “Some programs are essential to recruit talent at an early age and to promote Paralympic talent,” he added.

He then underlined the Government’s “commitment” to equal opportunities” through ‘Team Spain’ and its “medal promotion” to “treat equally what is equal.” “You are a strong team; in addition to athletics and swimming, we are having success in many other disciplines, with a lot of individual talent that is transformed by working as a team. We are deeply proud of your work,” he concluded.
