Ulysse Nardin presents ‘The Ocean Race Diver Chronograph’, a sustainable chronograph with “personality”

The Swiss manufacturer has manufactured a limited series of 100 copies to celebrate its commitment to the regatta and sustainability

MADRID, 27 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Swiss manufacture Ulysse Nardin, official sponsor of The Ocean Race 2022-23, presents ‘The Ocean Race Diver Chronograph’, a sustainable chronograph and “with personality” coinciding with the end of the round the world sailing with stopovers, which started on January 15 from Alicante and concludes this week in Genoa (Italy).

“It is a special day, we present a chronograph with which we reflect our commitment to sustainability, and which represents the personality of the person who wears it,” the Director of the Western Europe Zone, Sébastien, told a small group of specialized press in Madrid. Gaultier.

This limited edition watch -only 100 copies have been made- and launched in collaboration with The Ocean Race, is a “tribute to the passion of both” for the sea, and stems from the joint commitment to protect the oceans, Gaultier said.

Ulysse Nardin is a partner in ‘Time to Act’, a program that aims to reduce the devastating impact of pollution, climate change and industrial overfishing on the oceans. As part of this programme, the ‘Racing with Purpose’ initiative, developed together with 11th Hour Racing, is based on three projects, one of which aims to collect and analyze essential data on the health of water.

Thus, during the round-the-world voyage and in some of the most remote places on a 60,000 kilometer ‘journey’, the boats have collected data on the impact of climate change and the pollution caused by plastic spills.

In this context of sporting and environmental commitment, the manufacture has presented a new watch that celebrates the 50th anniversary of The Ocean Race, which started for the first time in 1973 from the coastal city of Portsmouth (England).

Water-resistant to 300 meters, its 44mm sandblasted black DLC titanium case houses the Ulysse Nardin Manufacture UN-150 chronograph caliber and its 318 components. This movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case back and is numbered ’50’ to mark the anniversary.

The Ocean Race logo is stamped on the ceramic part that adorns the rubber strap and its ardillon buckle. The unidirectional bezel has a Carbonium finish, which contains recycled fibers from aircraft fuselage trim, offering 40 percent less environmental impact than other carbon composites.

Ulysse Nardin became the first watchmaker to use this innovative material in a watch in 2019. It offers unmatched strength for its light weight, and its magnificent veining effect makes this watch a truly unique creation.

Founded in 1846 by watchmaker Ulysse Nardin, the company owes its reputation to its links to the sea. A pioneer in the use of materials such as silicon, it is one of the few manufacturers capable of producing its own high-precision components and movements. In 2001, he changed the face of contemporary watchmaking by launching the first ‘Freak’. Currently, in the Swiss cities of Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds, it remains dedicated to the pursuit of watchmaking perfection in four collections: Freak, Blast, Diver and Marine.
