UEFA places Qatar into European Group A for World Cup qualification

Qatar will be part of Group A of the European qualifying zone for the 2022 World Cup. The task is to play friendlies against the five members of the group and gain experience in matches before hosting the 2022 World Cup. Qatar already has a fixed place as the host country.

The agreement gives Qatar the possibility of playing 10 friendlies in Europe, and the results do not count in Group A. Group A rivals are Portugal, Serbia, Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan.

“As Qatar has already qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup as host, UEFA has invited them to join the teams in Group A to help their team prepare for the tournament,” the European governing body said on Tuesday. it's a statement.

Qatar will play every game in Europe, starting March 24 against Luxembourg. Qatar joins the only five-team qualifying group that does not feature UEFA Nations League finalists, while the other groups in Europe contain six teams.

The Qataris will also play friendlies next year in America. They will first play the Copa América from June 11 to July 10 as part of a group with co-host Colombia, and which also includes Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.

Then a team from Qatar will be in the United States from July 10 to August 10 to compete in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Qatar won its first Asian Cup title in 2019 by beating Japan in the final and is ranked 59th in the FIFA world rankings.
