MADRID, 11 Apr. (SportsFinding) –
The UEFA Appellate Body has sanctioned Atlético de Madrid with the “partial closure” of the Wanda Metropolitano during the second leg of Wednesday’s Champions League quarterfinal against Manchester City for “discriminatory conduct” of their fans in the first leg in England.
The governing body of European football has decided to “order the partial closure” of the rojiblanco stadium and has reported that Atlético de Madrid must inform prior to the match “the sector or sectors to be closed, which must include at least 5,000 seats.”
During the clash held last week at the Etihad Stadium, where the ‘citizens’ won 1-0 with a goal from Belgian Kevin de Bruyne, some Nazi salutes were recorded among the mattress fans who came to witness the match.
In addition, UEFA has ordered Atlético to display a banner with the slogan #NoToRacism (‘No to racism’) and with the UEFA logo before the match against Pep Guardiola’s team.
