Another setback from UEFA to Atlético. The European body punishes the rojiblanco club and orders the partial closure of the Wanda Metropolitano during “the next UEFA competition match” as a local and explains what it is “for the discriminatory behavior of its fans” during Manchester City-Atletico last week at the Etihad. According to this sanction, must close at least 5,000 seats for this Wednesday’s game. The entity will appeal with the confidence that it can be postponed.
From the rojiblanco club they told AS: “It is a disproportionate punishment that, for the action of one or two individuals, 5,000 fans pay” and more considering that it is a term “impossible to execute”, since all the tickets are sold. The day after the first leg UEFA reported that a disciplinary procedure was being opened for “discriminatory behavior and object throwing” during the encounter. The Appellate Body has now announced the partial closure for the next European competition match at home.
This is the UEFA statement about it:
The UEFA Appellate Body has announced the following decision which would affect fan attendance at UEFA matches:
–Order the partial closure of the Club Atlético de Madrid stadium during the next (1) UEFA competition match in which Club Atlético de Madrid would play as the host club, for the discriminatory behavior of its fans. Club Atlético de Madrid will inform prior to the match, the sector or sectors to be closed, which must include at least 5,000 seats.
