The Spanish triathlete Lucas García Picón, junior world champion, is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the University Clinical Hospital of Santiago de Compostela after suffering a serious accident while training, according to the Galician newspaper La Voz de Galicia. .

According to the media, the 17-year-old Galician athlete had gone out to train on a bicycle with his teammates from the Galician Sports Technology Center (CGTD) in Pontevedra when, after standing out from the group in the municipality of Barro, he collided with a car. García Picón, who belongs to the Lugo Fluvial Club, was proclaimed triathlon world champion in the age group of 15 to 19 years in the multisport event that was held in Pontevedra in September, and was one of those selected to represent Galicia in the Spanish Cross Country Championship for regional teams, which will be held in Getafe (Madrid) on January 27.
