Three days of mourning in Valladolid for the death of Concha Velasco, who will rest in the Panteón de Ilustres del Carmen

The Valladolid City Council has decreed three days of mourning for the death of the Valladolid actress Concha Velasco, whose funeral will take place this Sunday in the Cathedral at 12:00 p.m. The remains of the actress will rest in the Pantheon of Illustrious Vallisoletanos in the Carmen Cemetery.

This was stated by the mayor of the city, Jesús Julio Carnero, in a statement sent to the media, in which he assured that Concha Velasco will rest alongside the “greatest in common history.”

“The heart of Valladolid mourns her departure,” remarked the councilor, who has indicated that now is the time to accompany her on her last journey and say goodbye to her at the “level of pride, respect and admiration that all Valladolid citizens profess to her.”

For this reason, this Sunday, at 12:00 p.m., in the SI Cathedral of Valladolid, the archbishop, Luis Arguello, will preside and officiate a funeral liturgy in her memory, corpore insepulto, in which the entirety of Valladolid will be able to say goodbye and honor the actress. .

In the Pantheon of Illustrious Vallisoletanos of the Carmen Cemetery also rest, among others, the remains of the Spanish poet and playwright José Zorrilla; the Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer Vicente Escudero; the Spanish writer, geographer, journalist and thinker Ricardo Macías Picavea; the historian Narciso Alonso Cortés; the writer Rosa Chacel; the Spanish politician who founded, after the advent of the Second Republic, the Castellan Boards of Hispanic Action, Onísimo Redondo, and the Spanish novelist and member of the Royal Spanish Academy, Miguel Delibes.

Velasco suffered lymphatic cancer in 2014, and after the pandemic she herself acknowledged that her condition had worsened. It was in March 2022 when her son Manuel de ella announced to the media that her mother was admitted to a residence so that she would be cared for 24 hours a day.

“We regret to inform that our mother, Concha Velasco, died today, Saturday the 2nd, at 2:00 a.m. at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Majadahonda, having received the Holy Sacraments, as a result of a complication in her illness,” the family reported in a statement. release.
