The AC Milan and the Inter de Milan announced this Tuesday that a consensus has been reached to choose the project presented by the Populous studio, known as ‘La Catredal‘, to be a new and renovated stadium for both clubs.
It will be in the coming weeks when the details will be finalized to define the terms and deadlines for the development of the New Milan Stadium. In addition to this stadium, the resolution of the Milan City Council provides for the reconfiguration of said area, in which San Siro is currently located, with the creation of a sports and leisure time district, with a public park of about 50 thousand square meters of vegetation.
The new stadium will be built on a totally pedestrian area, with 110 thousand square meters of green areas (40%), in addition to including totally underground parking. In the rehabilitated spaces, sports or leisure activities will be developed that will be either free or in agreement with the City Council.
In the absence of determining the fine design of the stadium, which both clubs will carry out through Populous, it is expected that the project will be finalized and definitively presented during 2022.
For reference, the heritage of Milan
‘The Cathedral’, a project by this Italian studio, aims to festively represent the artistic heritage of Milan. It is inspired by the Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, two of the most representative buildings in the city, which will make it “a unique and unmistakable stadium with the rest of the world.” A stadium that, in addition, will be a “vanguard structure for innovation and eco-sustainability”.
