This is how King Felipe and Queen Letizia experienced the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris

The city of Paris has dressed up this Friday to host the inauguration of the Olympic Games 2024an event attended by important personalities from the world of art, culture, business and royalty. Don Felipe and Doña Letiziawho received the members of the Spanish Olympic Team at the Spanish Embassy in Paris on Thursday, did not want to miss the French celebration, for which 45,000 security forces were deployed. The King and Queen enjoyed the magnificent spectacle sitting in the stands of authorities at Trocadero, where they were not spared from the downpour that unsuccessfully tried to ‘spoil’ their party.

Felipe and Letizia were excited and smiling throughout. They talked to each other about everything that was happening on the banks of the Seine and also with their seatmates, who took the opportunity to ask them for some selfies. The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games began at 7.30pm with a parade along the Seine in a unique monumental setting along the following axis: departure from Pont d’Austerlitz, passing the Île Saint Louis, Notre Dame, Pont Neuf, the Louvre Museum, the Tuileries Garden, Place de la Concorde, Pont des Invalides, Pont de l’Alma and as a final point the Eiffel Tower and Place du Trocadero.

The artists Lady Gaga and Celine Dion, who is returning to public life after years of retirement due to a neurodegenerative disease, were the main attractions of the evening, although they were not the only ones to liven up the gala: the legendary La Bohème by Charles Aznavour was played. 3,000 artists, including dancers and musicians, 10,500 athletes from 205 countries and 90 boats sailing on the Seine enchanted an audience of more than 325,000 spectators.

After paying tribute to the host country on Thursday with a spectacular embroidered Dior outfit at the Spanish Embassy, ​​where she welcomed the Spanish Olympic Team alongside the monarch, the queen has once again turned to one of her favourite designers this Friday: Carolina Herrera. Queen Letizia appeared at the opening ceremony in a dress that she debuted in 2023 and which has a black sweetheart neckline, wide straps and a black and white floral print. With a fitted bodice, built-in pockets, a flared skirt, midi length and a bow at the waist, the dress belongs to a past collection, so it is no longer on sale.

She completed it with a black shawl, which she used to protect herself from the rain, and floral diamond earrings whose origin is unknown.
