These are the pensioners who will not receive the extra Christmas pay

The payment of pensions is special in November for Spanish pensioners, since the second of the two extra payments that Social Security pays during the year takes place. This pay, known as the Christmas pay due to its proximity to these holidays, happens to the summer pay (in the month of June) and is paid to the vast majority of people with the right to receive a pension.

However, not all pensioners will receive it. People currently receiving a pension of total, absolute permanent disability or severe disability derived from work accident and occupational disease They will not have extra Christmas pay, since the annual amount of these pensions is divided into 12 monthly payments.

Thus, they differ from other pensions such as retirement, widowhood, permanent total, absolute or severe disability due to non-work accident or common illness … which are charged in 14 monthly payments and whose pensioners will receive the extra Christmas pay, just as they perceived in their moment the one of summer.

This It does not mean that pensioners who do not receive the Christmas bonus receive less than the rest. Nothing is further from the truth, simply the amounts corresponding to extra payments are prorated throughout the year. Or what is the same: every month they will charge a little more, so that the absence of extra pay is compensated both at Christmas and in summer.

It is explained by Social Security itself on its website, guaranteeing that the collection of pensions in practice is the same, since “the extraordinary payments are prorated within the ordinary monthly payments, having been taken into account for the calculation of the base pension regulator “.

People who do receive the extra Christmas pay will not have to wait too long to collect it: although Social Security regulations establish that payment must be made between the first business day and the fourth calendar day of each month, banks usually anticipate the payment of these amounts between the 23rd and the 25th of each month, so this week they will have their pensions in the account. The same will happen, obviously, with people who do not receive the extra pay, who will receive their usual monthly payment the same day.

The amount of the extra Christmas pay will be that of the usual monthly payment charged by the pensioner, thanks to the Social Security method that takes into account the number of years of contributions and the worker’s regulatory basis in the years prior to the application for the pension (the last 24 in 2021). Thus, people who receive the extra Christmas pay in November will receive in their account twice what they charge a ‘normal’ month.

This will be the last pay of pensioners before the Escrivá reform
