These are the nominees for the Champions League position awards

UEFA has announced the list of candidates for the 2019-2020 Champions League position awards. These awards were introduced four seasons ago to reward the best player and female player by position of the European Cup. Like the award for the best player and female player, these four accolades will be awarded at the celebration of the 2020-21 Champions League group stage draw that will take place in Nyon on Thursday 1 October.

How could it be otherwise, the champion, andl Bayern Munich, dominates the dominated list with seven players, followed by the runner-up, PSG, with three and Manchester City and Atlético with one. Due to the disaster that Real Madrid and Barcelona starred in and to a lesser extent the mattress team, Jan Oblak is the only LaLiga player who has had the honor of being nominated.

The jury that selects the players is made up of the coaches of the 32 teams that participated in the last edition of the Champions League, in addition to 55 journalists who each represented a UEFA member federation. The members had to choose their top 3 and as usual, the coaches could not choose any player from their squad. There are a total of three players per position and this is the list offered by UEFA:

  • Goalkeepers: Keylor Navas (Paris Saint-Germain), Manuel Neuer (Bayern), Jan Oblak (Atlético de Madrid)
  • Defenses: David Alaba (Bayern), Alphonso Davies (Bayern), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern)
  • Midfielders: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Thomas Müller (Bayern), Thiago Alcántara (Bayern)
  • Forwards: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern), Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain), Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain)
