These are the foods that will increase the price of the purchase the most due to the war between Russia and Ukraine

The war between Russia and Ukraine is still at its height in a continuous battle of arms and economic movements, which is also greatly reducing the price of many products which are traded beyond the Slavic borders. In addition to the main energies (electricity, gas, fuel…) that have already been noted in recent days, many popular foods of the shopping basket they are also starting to increase in cost due to essential production from Russia and Ukraine.

If during the last months the price of the shopping cart has been rising according to the rise in the CPI and higher prices for the main energiesfrom these days and in the short-term future, consumers will continue to experience floods that will further reduce their pockets.

All as a result of the conflict unleashed since the invasion launched by Vladimir Putin and the different sanctions that the West is imposing on Russia, as well as the blockade that Ukraine is being forced due to its difficulties in the midst of the war. For this reason, some basic foods will continue to rise in Spain, arriving mostly from these territories.

These are the foods that will increase their price the most due to the war

Mainly all those that depend on the cereal, according to a report by the Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX), in 2020 the 42.2% of the imported cereal in Spain came from Ukraine. This affects several foods, as well as the fact that Spain is one of the largest producers of feed in Europe, which indirectly affects the feeding of livestock.

With this, although the consequences of the war have not yet begun to be felt and there is no shortage of grain, the meat, milk, eggs or bread could raise their prices in the short term future.

He too sunflower oil and all derivatives thereof. With a similar effect to cereal, Ukraine is Spain’s main supplier of this product, so both its batches and the raw materials that take advantage of it (pasta, mayonnaise, confectionery…) could also raise their costs in the coming months.

That is, with cereal and sunflower oil, two of the most basic products in the shopping basket, and the sanctions on Russia that affect energy, in the short term the shopping basket will continue to increase, with the respective prejudice for Spanish families. A new extra cost that is added to gasoline, electricity and gas, leaving the household economy and the most vulnerable pockets very damaged.
