A project born from the hobby of the Atlético de Madrid, which already has a date to see the light. Luis Aragones, legend of Atlético de Madrid and the Spanish soccer team, will finally have his statue in the Wanda Metropolitano. The effigy has been paid for by the mattress fans and has been built with the stones of the old stadium Vicente Calderón.
The initiative started from Athletic Front, which is the largest and most spirited group of the mattress club, with around 12,000 members, and which called on the rojiblancos fans to make a contribution of 15 euros per person to pay for it. It did not take too long to achieve the goal and the rest of the money raised went to solidarity initiatives of the Foundation of Athletic.
The initial idea, which remains, was to give the statue to the club to be placed in the vicinity of the mattress stadium. As announced by the group itself, the inauguration will be on next October 29 in an act that will be organized by the mattress club and that will be told by the family of the Luis Aragones and with representatives of the promoter club. The sculptor has been Alícia Huertas, author of works such as that of Antonio Mingote on Retirement, among many other important ones.
