The young Spanish cyclist Estela Domínguez, 19, died this Thursday after being hit by a truck while training on the road, in the Villares industrial estate (Salamanca).
Estela, daughter of professional ex-cyclist Juan Carlos Domínguez, lost her life when she was driving on the N-620, near the Villares de la Reina Industrial Estate (Salamanca), and was hit by a truck, according to information from the 112 emergency service. of the Junta de Castilla y León.
“From the RFEC, we deeply regret the death of Estela Domínguez. Our most sincere condolences to her family, friends and teammates. All Spanish cycling is in mourning. Please, always respect the cyclist on the road. Every bike goes a life”, wrote the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) on its Twitter account.
Domínguez signed for the Sopela Women’s Team this season to make her professional leap. “With immense pain, we have learned that our cyclist Estela Domínguez has died this afternoon, the victim of a hit-and-run while she was training. We accompany the family in these terrible moments. Rest in peace,” she put her team.
“There are no words that serve something like this. All my love to the family and friends of Estela Domínguez and especially her father with whom I shared a peloton in my early years,” wrote Alejandro Valverde, a legendary Spanish runner who also expressed the pain of national cycling .
