The Spanish rugby team was left on the verge of finishing a historic first European title because of a Georgia team that defended its dominance convincingly (49-15), to be crowned in Europe for the fifth time in a row.
Spain could not add its fifth victory in the REC 2022, clearly surpassed in the second part in the Dynamo Arena of Tbilisi. Santi Santos’ men had a six-game winning streak that began in November of last year against Russia and that served to take Spain back to a World Cup.
The important casualties did not help the ‘Lions’ either, in the middle of the cold in Tbilisi and towing from early on. Manu Ordás signed the Spanish reaction and the game entered a phase of deep plays, with good visitor defense and advantage (6-8).
The only income of Santos did not prosper, because of Lobzhanidze and Tabutsadze, with Gerogia imposing their physical power. Spain knew how to suffer but in the second half it was overcome little by little, with the locals punishing Santos’ responses to continue in the game with a result that was too bulky.
