Waalwijk goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen had to be revived this Saturday on the pitch after suffering a severe blow to the head, taken to the hospital conscious but still under surveillance, after the great scare experienced in the match against Ajax.

The Dutch League duel remained at 2-3 for those from Amsterdam in the 84th minute, when the clash between the goalkeeper and Brian Brobbey occurred. The goalkeeper was left lying on the ground and his teammates and rivals quickly realized the seriousness of the situation to call the attention of the paramedics.

Medical assistance jumped onto the field, as well as an ambulance, in moments of tension and tears, fearing for Vaessen’s life. According to Waalwijk, the goalkeeper “is conscious in the hospital”, although they are still taking precautions due to the tests being carried out on the footballer.

The match against Ajax was permanently suspended in the 84th minute, a decision that the Waalwijk crowd accepted, while both teams returned to the field to thank the behavior and support of the people in the stands.
