The unknown treasure of Camilo Sesto: his compilation ‘Forever’ contains ten unpublished songs

It goes on sale this Friday Camilo Foreverthe collection of four compilation CDs of more than 200 songs by Camillus Sextus that include a secret legacy of the author; at least 10 fully finished original songs that were never released and were never known to exist.

The producer Pepe Herrero He has been the discoverer of the songs, whose discovery he has described as “as exciting as finding treasures in Egyptian tombs”. The ten unpublished songs did not appear documented anywhere, not even on the internet, they were not even mentioned in the authorized biography that Sesto had allowed her friend and unconditional fan to make, Elena Gomez de la Puertawhen the singer was still alive.

The discovery of the new songs occurred in a casual and “rocambolesca” way, as published by the newspaper The country. The music production company Sony Music sent Herrero the artist’s original recordings to be remastered. This producer had already been in charge of orchestrating the compilation Symphonic Camilo in 2018.

The songs were recorded on different separate tracks, which picked up voices and instruments independently, and which had to be put together like a puzzle to achieve the complete songs. When completing songs, the music producer found the ten unknown compositions, having been discarded for inclusion in several of the 24 albums he released throughout his life.

It is a couple of ballads, Soledad y you will fly; and titles like when someone falls in love, We are abrasive, I only think of you, Now or neverthe theme in English Winning and the eighties Too young y poor world.

Camilo Forever is an unusual compilation among Spanish artists. The case contains the songs from Camilo Sesto’s records from 1972 to 1986, and according to the head of the catalog at Sony Music and the main promoter of an initiative, Loving Cifuentesis “a historic act of justice.”

Camilo Blanes Cortés died on September 8, 2019 at the age of 72, after having composed more than 200 songs and selling 175 million copies of his records. The unforgettable performer of rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar he even became hailed as the “Spanish Sinatra” when he sang the impressive To live like this is to die of love, before 45,000 spectators at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1981.

The artist disappeared from the charts at the end of the eighties and ended up being a bit of a caricature of himself due to excessive histrionics and some excess ego. He was heavily vilified when he returned to television fame as a grotesque character, rather than as an artist. He didn’t manage to improve that image when he tried to return to music with the 2002 ‘Mola mazo’, which instead of bringing him closer to young people, distanced him even more from his longtime fans.
