The Tottenham-Rennes of the Conference League will not be played

The Conference League match that Tottenham and Rennes should have played last Thursday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, suspended due to several positives for coronavirus in the English team, will not be played, UEFA announced this Saturday.

The ‘Spurs’ announced on Wednesday that the meeting would not be played the following day after detecting several positive cases of COVID-19 in the club, and the French team accused Tottenham of taking a “unilateral decision”.

UEFA, after speaking with both entities, has decided not to set a date for the new match. “In accordance with Annex J of the UEFA Europa Conference League regulations, UEFA, in cooperation with the two clubs, tried to find a viable solution to reschedule the match, in order to ensure that the group stage can be completed”, he pointed.

“Unfortunately, despite all efforts, no solution could be found that could satisfy both clubs. As a consequence, the game can no longer be played and the matter will therefore be referred to the Control, Ethics and Control Body. UEFA discipline for a decision to be made in accordance with Annex J of the aforementioned competition regulations, “he added.

Rennes have already finished first in the group, while Tottenham is third and could be eliminated.
