The Swiss Jasmine Flury surprises with the gold in descent in the Alpine Ski World Championship

MADRID, 11 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Swiss skier Jasmine Flury gave the surprise this Saturday and won gold in the downhill category of the Alpine Ski World Championships that are taking place in Courchevel Méribel (France).

Flury was among the first to drop, but none of the other 27 entrants were able to beat her time of 1:28.03, although Austrian Nina Ortlieb fell within four hundredths. The bronze went to another Swiss, Corinne Suter, current Olympic and world downhill champion, who finished twelve hundredths behind her compatriot.

On the other hand, the one designated as the great favorite for gold, the Italian Sofia Goggia, could not even get on the podium. The leader of the World Cup in the specialty made a mistake in the final part of her descent and she was disqualified.
