The ‘Sports Volunteer Week’ starts in Gijón to “promote solidarity and equality”

The LaLiga Foundation, together with the Spanish Volunteering Platform and Real Sporting de Gijón, presented this Tuesday the ‘Sports Volunteering Week’, which starts this Tuesday and will extend until Saturday, with the aim of “promoting solidarity and equality through sports volunteering”.

Thus, “sport and solidarity” will be the protagonists in Gijón during this initiative led by LaLiga, the Spanish Volunteering Platform and the Real Sporting Dizziness School Foundation of Gijón, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030 and of the Asturian city council.

“It has the objective of promoting solidarity and equality through sports volunteering, involving civil society and social and sports organizations in the area,” the employer’s association noted in a statement.

From this Tuesday until Saturday, attendees will enjoy a program of training and sports activities for all ages, as well as workshops to raise awareness and promote sports volunteering, mainly aimed at young people.

On the other hand, another series of events will take place to promote healthy habits and active aging, such as a popular march, the walking football demonstration or ‘Walking Football’ or a social innovation session on sport and women.

“The role of sports foundations as a strategic vector is fundamental for improving the living conditions of the population, highlighting the role that the world of football can assume within the framework of promoting the social objectives and commitments that we assume in our daily action,” declared the president of the LaLiga Foundation, Clemente Villaverde during the official presentation of the project.

Along the same lines, the director of the volunteering platform in Spain, Mar Amate, highlighted the importance of this type of alliances, since “their actions provide greater visibility.” “For years, we have been able to verify that linking sport with volunteering contributes to raising awareness, educating and transmitting values ​​that promote a tolerant, respectful, more inclusive and egalitarian world,” she said.

Furthermore, the director of the Real Sporting de Gijón Foundation, Germán Argüelles, highlighted that both the group and the club “already carry out regular volunteer activities with the first team players and employees, and very soon with their quarry players.”

During this ‘Sports Volunteering Week’, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, awareness workshops on sports volunteering will be held, aimed at young people from the Real Sporting de Gijón youth academy and for students of the TSEAS Training Cycle of the La Training Center. Labor and Life Training.

For its part, on Thursday the planned activities will begin with the departure of the popular march. The event will begin at the Gijón Aquarium and end at the El Molinón stadium where, next, a series of activities to promote healthy habits and sports volunteering are scheduled, such as Zumba or the presentation of various volunteer samples.

Finally, the initiative will close this Saturday with the launch of the walking soccer program. An initiative aimed at people over 50 years of age that encourages healthy habits and promotes the active aging of the population.
