MADRID 27 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish MAPFRE tennis team will head to Switzerland this Tuesday to play next weekend in its first qualifying round of the Davis Cup 2025 against the Swiss team at the Swiss Tennis Arena in the town of Biel.
The team led by David Ferrer will try to advance to the second round with a team where its great reference will be missing, the Murcian Carlos Alcaraz, current number three in the world, and where the responsibility will fall on Pedro Martínez, Roberto Carballés, Jaume. Munar and Martín Landaluce.
The entire expedition will begin its training on Wednesday at the crossroads stage, which will consist of two singles matches on Saturday, February 1, and a doubles and, if necessary, another two singles on Sunday the 2nd.
Despite the absence of Alcaraz or players like Roberto Bautista, Pablo Carreño or Alejandro Davidovich and an always uncomfortable surface for the ‘Armada’ tennis players, Spain starts as favorites against a Switzerland with little-known players like Jerome Kym, Marc-Andrea Huesler, Remy Bertola and Dominic Stricker, all of them beyond the ‘Top 100’ in the ATP rankings. In case of victory, they would have a second ‘Qualifier’ against the winner of Denmark-Serbia.
